I had such high expectations for this musical. I love musicals overall but I haven't seen much and I got recommended this one.
I already knew the myth and how it ended but I think AnaÏs is a genius for reimagining such an old story into a critique of capitalism and industralization that compliments the two love stories that are told. My respect for that woman, she is a damn genius. I kinda hoped this musical changed the tragic ending of the story, but I think they did the right thing by keeping it just as it is.
I watched the version with Jordan and Maia, and let me tell you something, they were PERFECT; Orpheus looked so silly and he irradiated that naiveté, his voice is gorgeous. Philip Boikyn ATE as Hades, everytime he showed up I had goosebumps, such a deep and empowering voice, I liked it better than the "original" one...
The sound inspired by blues was the thing that made this really great for me, it's 120 minutes but it felt like 10 honestly. Time flies when you're having fun.
I had heard Wait For Me before and I thought it was a great song, but damn, it's better watching it performed. Songs with "wait" on the name are always bangers. My favorite one besides from that was "Flowers" and "All I've Ever Known". I'll definitely watch again and I might become a die hard fan.
