Kathleen Turner is seductive and powerful, and the film is able to depict things that would have been banned by the censors a dozen years earlier. Real sex and scandal only serve to enhance the themes the 40s noirs were touching upon.

I was watching through a Chinese streaming platform that censored the spicy moments, so I probably wasn’t feeling the full impact of this film’s eroticism. Despite that, what still comes through is this pair’s magnetism. It calls back to Double Indemnity - two people in the midst of passion being very immoral. It’s gritty and classy at the same time, with a mood and story structure of those old film noirs: tight and tragic. I’ll have to get this on physical media. Maybe they’re just doing yoga in that bedroom.
