The Big Heat follows the average noir blueprint; a suspicious murder sends a man into an investigation, eventually leading to the rich and powerful in the city. And along the way, he falls in love with a beautiful dame, who has her own ties to the murder. Seems like every other noir, right? Well, what makes The Big Heat stand out above the rest is that it’s one of the most violent and brutal films I’ve seen come out of the period. Its story grabs you from the beginning, and throws you up against the wall all the way to the end. One of the greatest noirs I’ve ever seen.

this really went hard. not one scene felt wasted just endless drama, violence, and angst. i think debby marsh is one of the best film noir characters.
