I just love heist movies, and honestly this one didn’t disappoint. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a solid entry in the genre and I had a good time with it.
First thing I really appreciated is the setting. Instead of going for the usual New York, Los Angeles or Chicago, this one takes place in Atlanta, and that already gives it a bit of a different vibe. It feels fresher just because of that.
The camera work and soundtrack are good, nothing groundbreaking, but they do the job and fit the tone of the film. Where the movie really goes crazy though is the cast. It’s honestly stacked: Woody Harrelson, Casey Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus, Gal Gadot, Clifton Collins Jr… it’s kind of wild seeing all of them in the same film.
Performance wise, a few stand out more to me. Woody Harrelson does a really solid job as the inspector leading the case, Casey Affleck works really well as the new guy in the department, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is great as one of the main members of the crew. He brings a lot of weight to the role.
The heists themselves are one of the highlights. The first one is especially impressive, very well planned, with misdirection, accents, and moments where they barely even need to speak. You can tell there’s a lot of preparation behind it. The final one is also good, although by that point there’s so much going on that it can feel a bit messy.
What I liked is how everything starts to connect. Corrupt cops, criminals, the Russian mafia, and all those overlapping storylines slowly colliding. It creates that sense of a world where everyone is involved in something shady and nothing is clean. I also enjoyed seeing the Russian mafia portrayed in this context, adding another layer to the story.
It’s a gritty, pretty ruthless film at times, and it does a good job showing how messy and unforgiving that world can be.
Overall, a solid heist movie with action, a strong cast and that extra twist of having cops and criminals mixed together. Not top tier, but definitely worth watching if you’re into this kind of story.
