A pretty fantastic film noir based off Ernest Hemingway’s short story of the same name, which is also the same story Andrei Tarkovsky’s first film was based on. The story itself is very engaging and its non-linear plot works really nicely with the unfolding plots. The acting is pretty decent, especially Burt Lancaster in his debut feature, Ava Gardner was also great although it’s a shame she wasn’t in it for long. The cinematography is gorgeous, very classically noir with stark contrast and brilliant framing. Overall I very good noir, I enjoyed it very much.
