A group of three try to get by with their new lives and friends in Hong Kong when they attract the attention of the Triads. Blood will spill and relationships will be broken.
Bruce Li and Carl Scott (who is FIFTEEN here and already crazy good at martial arts) prove to be impeccable fighters in this tragic martial arts drama with a sad ending. There also seems to be an alternate, more positive ending for this film, but the copy I watched (stitched together from what appears to be several widescreen prints and a full screen print) chooses the sad ending. The film does not pull any punches on how brutal the Triads can be to our characters.
I actually agree with Tarantino that this is a tough tale of friendship and betrayal. There's also some really cool shots in here, like when Li stabs a guy with his fingers and you can see the man's still beating heart bleed. How did they do that?
A very strong martial arts film.
