When choosing a movie for my Birthday(🥳) I like to pretend I'm very particular, however I'm not really. And you could also argue that this isn't the first movie I watched on my birthday, because it isn't, however it's the first movie I watched (fully) after turning 18 as the other one finished before the time of day I was born. Anyway this is all boring technicalities that somt really matter. Point is I watched this on my birthday cause I wanted to treat myself to something I've wanted to watch for a very long time and this is a movie I've wanted to watch forever!
First time I heard about it was one of the countless times I've looked through one of the 501 movies to watch before you die editions. I loved looking through that book as a little child and for some reason the image for this movie always stuck with me. I'd play out in my head what I thought happened to the three guys in the picture and I was pretty much a huge fan of this movie without ever seeing anything of it other than a picture. Now I have finally seen it!
Over the years I've learned more about the movie, for example what it was about and all of this honestly just excited me more. Now I kept my expectations intact, as the movie obviously wasn't gonna be like I played it out to be from that single image when I was 8. Now I'm certainly not disappointe, cause with the things I knew and the expectations I had set this movie kinda surprised being slightly better than I had dared hope. It's no secret I love Walter Hill and man he just knows how to make some cool movies with great shootouts and fun or in this case dark action.
Combine his abilities with one of my favorite genre, westerns, and you know I'm going to love it. And I did. Also the actors do a great job and I love the fact that the movie cast a bunch of brothers to play brothers. It's a gimmick but it's a gimmick that pays off. Overall I'm happy with the movie and can definitely imagine myself checking it out again someday. And more importantly the little child in me is more than pleased having finally seen this movie after so many years
