Fuck, that was a weird movie. Not all weird movies are bad, in fact, I fucking love weird shit. Escape to Witch Mountain is a bad movie though. From the fucking awful effects, to the brain dead story, to the questionable acting, it's pretty bad. Maybe kids would like it, but it can be pretty boring. For adults, the story is basically nothing. There are so many questions left unanswered and this is clearly a "shut up and watch" movie and not a "Why are they doing that; what it their goal" movie. I had to watch at movie celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, so looking up movies from 1975 and seeing the contemporaries of this film means you can't explain away how terrible this looks or how wooden the acting was; there were amazing movies that came out the same year. You can't tell me that having 98% of the story come through exposition dumps from the awkward kids is "of the time". This feels like what a bad Disney Channel Original would have been had the channel existed in the 70's, but this was a real theatrical movie that made twenty million dollars. It has enough potential that I'm definitely going to watch the sequel (and remake and other remake if they actually make it), but i can't imagine ever investing the time in watching this one ever again.
