Memories and realizations. Past and present. Poetic tragedy binds by dubious sour seeds.
The camera work is god tier. Of all the Japanese New Wave directors I have coming, Yoshida was the one I was looking forward to most. Sure enough, this first entry did not disappoint. The palpability and power of each frame and captured image carries with it a transcendent magnitude. The phrase, “a picture is worth a thousand words” felt shockingly literal. The narrative telling feels more like a sewn tapestry than a told story. It’s a wholly poetic experience. Transformative.
