At some point in the late 60’s, Clint Eastwood had plans to remake Sergio Corbucci’s snowy western masterpiece Il Grande Silenzio. This project never saw the light of day, and supposedly Joe Kidd was what took its place. Written by novelist Elmore Leonard, directed by John Sturges and starring Robert Duvall, John Saxon and Clint Eastwood, Joe Kidd is certainly a competently made and decently compelling flick, but it is overall pretty standard fair. There isn’t really anything to write home about, but it is a fun movie that’s worth a watch, even if it’s just for the names attached to the film.
