this film is absolutely insane and untouchable in some aspects, and is bad or mediocre in other aspects. the first 10 minutes of this (the cityscape intro) absolutely draws you in with some of my favorite animation and soundtrack combinations ever — a cyberpunk enthusiats wet dream. jungleish/primal beats work so well with oppresive digital city. the movie feels ethereal at some points, and it does well when its combing intresting visuals with intresting sound e.g. the toys dancing scene in the hospital/bedroom or whatever. that said the plot itself is just long and confusing. maybe its genius and i just didnt get it, but i remember waiting for it too finally be over

We will quite literally never get an animation that looks this good. Lightning in a bottle moment in history of having that many artists doing hand drawn animation with the ability to go over budget and over schedule like it did and still get to the finish line.
