Filmmaker Nicky offers to track down the son that Mamie gave up for adoption nearly two decades before. Meanwhile, Mamie's stepbrother (and the father of her child), Charley, along with his boyfriend, Gil, try to find out what became of the sperm Gil donated to a lesbian couple. Finally, singer Jude becomes entangled in a love triangle with androgynous drummer Otis and his conservative father.

I really really liked it if i saw this movie at a video store i dont think id even hesitate to buy, It was fun, just my kinda "crazy, stupid, love" movie I loveeee these kinda of movies. I liked how most of the characters intercepted with eachothers lives and the texts on the screen SURPIRSINGLY didnt bother me i actually kinda loved it. Poor Jude-Dude i loved her and wow the singing from maggie was gorge. Such complicated characters and i really liked it the minor "plot twists" or just little "omg!" moments ugh i live for those. Yeah, at times i did get a little confused with who was who and what was happening but it was part of the funnnnn. Honestly if it werent for the the small things about this movie that i thought were pretty weird an didn't like then this would probably be making its way up to my top 4 hell it still might make it up there. I super duper enjoyed this movie; i just have to say holy guacafreakingmoly there were soooo many gay people, not bothered, just surprised. The different storylines and the way we say some of the characters grow was so important to me.

This movie got great f-slur bombs.

Also, maggie gyllenhaal and lisa kudrow are like really good in this movie omg. They carried tf out of this as it went on and im pleased. The movie would just feel shitty and then you would get a good ass acting performance like damn okayyy.

The  tropey pop up video i-movie text thingy was weird though we could of done without that it was getting too ridiculous i was giggling at how stupid it was.

And im obsessed with how this movie looks and feels. I wanna be in 2005 listening to trip-hop and smoke.

While it does feel like a kindred spirit to THE OPPOSITE OF SEX, namely because it’s also about a TOM with a proximity to Kudrow’s character, the masking of overt, comical homophobia as queerness and that goddamn plot device of an all knowing narrator (albeit the voiceover is now replaced with sassytext-on-screen).

HAPPY ENDINGS is an average showing with a talented cast but with a poor script that leaves alot to be desired. Coogan, Gyllenhal, Dern and especially Kudrow were top form.
