A living, breathing document of the civil rights movement through the assembled footage and memories of the people who were there on the front lines. I do take slight issue with the way this film positions MLK in relation to the Black Power movement and the celebrity monologues are useless, but this does highlight very clearly what an effective and strong orator he was. As a compilation of mediated material of the struggle for freedom and dignity for Black Americans, it’s an incredible experience, seemingly leaving no stone unturned. Hard to argue with it, harder to ignore it.
