48 hrs? This only went for 90 minutes!
Nick Nolte is tough, gruff and 1980s buff cop Jack Cates who is chasing down a pair of escaped convict cop un-alivers. Eddie Murphy is fast talking (when is he not?) Reggie Hammond, who is paroled from his own jail sentence for the titular 48 hrs to help Jack track down the members of his former crew.
This one hits different in a post Beverly Hills Cop world, as it just doesn’t reach the heights or humour of the later box office hit.
And oh boy it is peppered with so casual racism sprouted from a character that is the co-lead! We are meant to like this guy and he is saying shit like this?
The bar room scene however, where Murphy flashes a cop badge and completely turns the table on a group of redneck bar patrons is electrifying and is truly humour with an edge as you can feel a release for both star and audience who have no don’t experienced the reverse scenario from Police in many a scenario.
