i think there was a massive shift from the 1980s short barbie films and this one, the art style looks a lot cheaper, and somehow i just prefer it so much more. it has that art style that i’m nostalgic about, and i hate how modern animation looks way too perfect. i really didn’t know what to expect from this at all, barbie and rapunzel having a cross over for me is crazy. i love barbie, and the tales of rapunzel always peak my interest so i was excited what this film was going to offer. and how my expectations were blown out the water… i love how while it takes the story of rapunzel, it adds new elements to keep it all fresh. such as a rabbit, a dragon and a ferret. those 3 were great additions to the cast, and they really make the film. the characters were by far some of the strongest parts of the film. panelope was just a helpful side character and i absolutely adore her voice, whoever voiced her is really great, i love how raspy she sounds. i think the rabbit is also a strong member. he was such a relatable addition and adds a bit of a comedic atmosphere to the film, i also enjoy his voice. the weasel otto was amazing. he was such a snitch but i laughed so hard whenever he said a line, he just moaned it all. what were the directors and the voice actor going for? mother gothel was serving face card and she was honestly such a diva, i really liked her as a villain. and of course the main girl rapunzel, miss delusional and she was such a great main character, that magic paintbrush saved lives. this film maybe works so well just because of how unironically hilarious it is, the plot is simple enough, and just like all fairytales they all live happily ever after. i actually feel like this is a mix of cinderella and rapunzel, prince charming falls in love with her and goes around looking for her and also she gets trapped in the middle of no where, but i love both so i’m not complaining. another thing i love is barbie really told her a story for 90 minutes just so she could understand what to paint.. sometimes it’s like that
