the incorporation of stop-motion animation in this one is completely bizarre, but i feel like it truly heightens the dream-like state of wonderland … but there’s no denying that those puppets are absolutely terrifying. the mad hatter? omg. the use of puppets in this one certainly allows it to stand out in comparison to the others though as the handcrafted nature of the figures allows for one to make the characters as whimsical as can be; it’s not as fluid and emotional as would be preferred, but given their time, it’s quite impressive
the pacing is somewhat peculiar, partly because of the use of puppets and some of their motions being somewhat slower, thus dragging down the pace. one example would be in the scene with the mad hatter’s tea party, which is a fun scene overall, but definitely seemed to drag out a bit; on the other hand, alice initially meeting the cheshire cat and her trial for the queen seemed rushed and like they were just there for the sake of sticking to the story
overall enjoyable though and definitely stands out when compared to other adaptations
