Henri Verneuil was born Achod Malakian of Armenian parentage on October 15, 1920, in Rodosto, Turkey, and his family fled to France and settled in Marseilles when he was a young child. Mother
An emotional film. Touched my heart.

'Mayrig' is a story about a family, the Zakarians, both during and after the Armenian genocide, and it's so so so well made. What I love about this film is that it doesn't place too much emphasis on the horrors that were committed by the Young Turks from 1915-1923. Instead, it highlights the impact it all had on the Armenian population as a whole.

This film really struck a nerve with me. The name of the film is 'Mother', but it's not about a mother per se. 'Mayrig' is about your mother country. About your mother tongue. About your family history. About where you feel welcome. About difficult times and about hope. 'Mayrig' is about your home. Made me miss my mom like nothing else.
