Recently, I’ve been going through a nostalgic phase, and the chokehold the early 2000s aesthetic has on me is only getting stronger.
So Close is the epitome of action films of that era. The frantic, fragmented editing, the gravity-defying fight scenes, the absolute tech galore – everything constructs the perfect time capsule. The plot itself is effortlessly feminist. However, in my opinion, it would be even better if it were gayer. Unoriginal take, I know, but it’s a raw fact.
The whole trio of actresses did a good job, but Shu Qi will always be my fave.
