‘To me, loving you means dreaming up ways to cure your anguish, and following you anywhere.’
really interesting depiction of how the slightest doubt allows a life changing moment in time to become nothing more than a fleeting memory. léa seydoux was absolutely amazing in this. this being in black and white was definitely the correct choice, with the character of marie-julie had a melancholic sense to her. the constant facial expressions of dissatisfaction really made her. the dynamic between her and arthur was really strange, although i do find beauty in the brief solace they found whilst together. arthur struggling with feeling unworthy of marie-julie, and marie-julie seeking out the cure for her perpetual sadness. it was destined to fail. that hesitation stemming from the guilt he felt for abandoning a sick albert, who cared for him in times of need to pursue his love, all for it to fall apart for being indecisive, is rather poetic to me. time really waits for no man.
