Despite Play Misty for Me being one of Clint Eastwood’s earlier directorial works, his signature traits can already be seen: the overly masculine perspective, the irresistible macho emploi, the tendency to insert himself into sex scenes with numerous actresses, etc. I’m pretty sure the plot was some sort of reaction to the summer of love. The bliss of a quiet West Coast town being disturbed by a sex-crazed woman definitely rang some bells for me.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed its summery atmosphere, funky/jazzy soundtrack, and overall nonchalant vibe. Jessica Walter as Evelyn is a deranged queen.
