a low budget 2000s slasher conveying to horror clichés.
this film just shows the influence of the original texas chainsaw massacre. and as bad and nonsensical this film is, i still really enjoy it. the characters are quite hit or miss - some are just kinda of generic slasher characters that elevate the story and others are actually really entertaining, the hitchhiker and film nerd were definitely the 2 which i enjoyed most, the hitchhiker trope is quite overdone but jen is a really fun character, she’s just so over the top and unrealistic to the point where i kinda loved her, also her rant about music was so real tbh. jim was definitely a more uniquely written character and definitely had some nice scenes, cathy was an alright character but a mediocre final girl, the other 3 were just irrelevant to me, the blonde girl was just so bitchy and not in a good way and the other 2 guys were just plain. the villain isn’t particularly my favourite, the twist gets revealed too quickly and i don’t really perceive the villain as threatening, his mask looks more funny looking than anything. the setting of an abandoned carnival has been done better before, but i still enjoy it, quite a rural setting and makes some nice shots. the cinematography and editing isn’t really my favourite and the pacing is a bit all over the place, but this film has great gore and amazing kills to make me forget all the bad, and honestly i will enjoy slasher films 90% of the time as long as they use the whole ‘so bad it’s good’ thing which completely makes the genre.
