give me another cliché trope gay romance and i’ll eat it up all over again, although i do think this was pretty unique, i have genuinely never heard of a gay mormon movie before.
the way steve sandvoss acts is so admirable, he’s just so cute and charming that i couldn’t help but root for him the entire time. joseph gordon-levitt was also perfect playing a homophobe, like wow okayy, im keeping an eye out
the acting isn’t exactly amazing across the board, but the way they told the story was beautiful. i could really feel christian’s guilt, fear, and dread throughout the film.
the bit where they were going door to door and ran into the gay couple was hilarious, and the snow scene at the airport was so cute and adorable, i was smiling like an idiot.
the whiplash i got from the transition of chris giving the watch to his mom straight into that wild dream sequence though. i was caught off guard. i was literally crying midway through the scene, and then all of a sudden the film cuts to them strapped to chairs in a bizarre conversion therapy nightmare while being forced to look at naked photos of each other. the tonal shift was so insane that i didn’t even know how to react.
and that ending, i literally cried. i’m so glad they found their way back to each other in the end. after everything they went through, i was genuinely so happy for both of them. such a simple story, but it was done so good.
