The first film in the franchise to feature an all-out monster-brawl. Was it cheesy? Yes. Was it entertaining? Also, yes.
Strange things are happening on Earth. The weather is warm in January, and meteors are dropping from the sky. There is the Princess of Seligna (Akiko Wakabayashi), who is coming to Japan to escape an assassination plot, only for her plane to crash and become a prophet from Venus. The threat is big and in the form of a three-headed monster named King Ghidorah. Meanwhile, Godzilla and Rodan have woken from slumber to fight, and Mothra has to convince both of them to join forces against Ghidorah.
Unlike other instalments of the franchise, the human story is given much thought and development. There is an assassination plot and an attempt to unite all the kaiju against Ghidorah. The buildup to King Ghidorah was handled perfectly, building him up as the ultimate monster that will be impossible for any of the other kaiju to fight against.
The effects are still good. I loved the costume of Ghidorah, and the perception tricks used to convince that the Mothra twins are in the same room as their larger human counterparts. Of course, the trick is easy to understand today, but it looks impressive, nonetheless.

the fairy ladies are back and better than ever!!! also the sped up scenes of godzilla kill me each time. and don’t even get me started on his eyes. yeesh. and i LOVE that godzilla canonically thinks humans are bullies and always picking on him.
