“you ripped off those cheers!”
“excuse me, missy. our cheers are 100% original. count the trophies!”
anything with kirsten dunst i will enjoy, and while i don’t know much about cheerleading like at all: this was still a really fun teen comedy with a really light hearted tone to it. torrance shipman (kirsten dunst) is the new captain of a highly successful cheerlead in team: who she later finds out her squad steals their cheers off the clovers, so she guides her team to come up with something original before the national championship. i think behind the rally well done cheerleader choreography, i think the thing that makes this so culturally significant is just it’s meme influence, paving the way for later teen comedies and nicely touches on subjects such as racial inequality, cultural appropriation and this is why this film would stand out in a room of coming of age comedies. the cast is definitely my biggest draw obviously, it has kirsten dunst! she has so much chemistry with the rest of the cast and her comedic timing is spot on (as usual) it’s dialogue is very fitting for its genre, the script is very quick, smart, snappy, funny, energetic, this film is just entertaining! it’s completely self aware with its satire tone and just straight up fun, with cheerleader rivalry, kirsten dunst, amazing choreography and just complete wittiness: all these manage to enhance thr film just a lot more, as it truly has everything. despite it being short, and not all the characters getting particularly any focus, the ones who were actually important wete developed really nicely and that’s all that matters.
