Marty, a butcher who lives in the Bronx with his mother, is unmarried at 34. Good-natured but socially awkward, he faces constant badgering from family and friends to get married but has reluctantly resigned himself to bachelorhood. He then meets Clara, an unattractive school teacher. Realising their emotional connection, Marty promises to call, but family and friends try to convince him not to.

"Ma, sooner or later, there comes a point in a man's life when he's gotta face some facts. And one fact I gotta face is that, whatever it is that women like, I ain't got it."

6 hours back I watched gate of hell in which the main character is probably the biggest walking red flag ever and marty in this movie is the complete opposite of him. There are some times when you watch a film and you can't stop cheering for the character so badly. Feels relatable even now after almost 70 years, the story perfectly tells the story of a lonely man who is struggling with finding a gf. Very realistic of the situations even for today's standards. The acting is on an another range. That alone carried this film to different heights. Joymaxxing😁

Never thought I would be saying this over a 50s romcom, but he is literally me.
