sometimes it felt like they were trying to branch off in too many different directions, especially at just 90 minutes, but if they streamlined this down just a little it would’ve been pretty much flawless. it was really gorgeous to look at, and the story at its core was just as beautiful.

I just know they were pissed when Weapons came out.

Unfortunately the heavy handedness of its themes and motifs - excessive planes, Greek mythology, Pegasuses and horses, as well as the obvious visual references to Moonlight, Spike Lee, Khalil Joseph, and more iconic Black visual staples - drown out the heart of an otherwise compelling story of a man refusing to rise above his circumstances. I felt this film didn’t trust it’s audience. Clumsy throughout. Great performances though.

Too anti-plot for me but incredibly soulful and heartfelt. It was a great meditation/art piece that used clever analogs effectively. The visual storytelling/shot selection was the most impressive aspect. A beautiful work.
