The Dirties, Matt Johnson's directorial debut follows Matt Johnson and Owen Williams, two pretentious high school film lovers who make a film called The Dirties about getting revenge on bullies, only for Matt to take the entire project off course after the premiere of the short where he plans a school shooting with the help, but eventually the pair's friendship dwindles. It's clear that this is an illusion to Columbine with Matt being Eric and Own being Dylan, more specially Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold's Basement Tapes that showed their intentions and the planning of the shooting. I haven't seen the film Zero Day, which is on my watchlist, but I can tellt hat The Dirties is much funnier. This film is fucking hilarious at times mainly due to the brother-like friendship between Matt and Owen. Their love for film and the process of making a film is shown in meta commentaries about the intentions of creators, putting on a show for the cameras, and the relationship world. The stereotypes of the bullies gat come through on this reflect that fact that this was made by the people being bullied, it's one-sided for a purpose and contiebutes to the film's success in how it pulls off the comedy surrounding a high school massacre.
