Mr. Conductor's supply of magic gold dust, which allows him to travel between Shining Time and Thomas's island, is critically low. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to get more. Meanwhile, Thomas is fending off attacks by the nasty diesel engines. Getting more gold dust will require help from Mr. C's slacker cousin, his new friend Lily and her morose grandfather, plus the secret engine.

A totally insane movie that has such a special place in my heart given I saw it on my 3rd birthday on my first ever trip to the cinema. Baldwin kills all the bizarro miniature stuff. Peter Fonda looks deeply depressed. Lovely work by Mara Wilson and Didi Conn. the action gets a bit repetitive in the third act but there’s a 35 min stretch at the start that is pure magic and like nothing else I’ve seen in an American film.
