This was such a cool movie. I love a low budget 90s film and this is no exception, wow. As far as movies about the apocalypse go I would have to say this is one of the most realistic ones I’ve seen. With an imminent and instant threat of the end of the world this film really rides the line between two others I’ve watched recently. It splits the difference between the absolute chaos of These Final Hours and the unsustainable hope of Deep Impact, and it does this perfectly. The tensions and awkwardness between characters feels real, the emotion behind people’s words feel real, the response to the end of the world feels real, it’s just great honestly. I also just have to throw a mention about how much I love that there was a small gay storyline in this, thank you for that Don McKellar.
I don’t know what it is about low budget, 90s, Canadian films but I just love them. This movie is so reminiscent of Love & Human Remains to me which has a completely different plot, but the vibe of both movies is so similar and just awesome, I really resonate with it. Maybe I can relate to Canadian movies in a way that I don’t relate to some American movies. Either way, this is an awesome movie and was right up my alley, really cool that I got to watch it for school too, I probably never would have otherwise.
