Taking off immediately where the last one ended, Mike travels across dimensions and time, fleeing from the Tall Man while trying to find the origins of his enemy and what really happened the night that his brother died. Meanwhile, Reggie battles spheres and the undead in a quest to find Mike before the Tall Man can complete his transformation.

Four years after the last film, “Phantasm IV: Oblivion” picks up right where that one ended and continues the hunt for the Tall Man.
It moves away from the action and comedy of the first two sequels and goes back to the surrealistic horror of the original. But if you ask me, it fails. I found this to be pretty boring and uninteresting and it never reaches the atmosphere, feeling or level of surrealism the original had. It just felt like a pointless sequel and I got the impression that Coscarelli didn’t even really know what he was doing at this point.
What I enjoyed tho was the footage from the first film they used. As the original cut of that film was about three hours long and ultimately cut down to about just short of 90 minutes, there was a lot of unused footage. After they got a hold of some of that footage, they implemented in into this film, making for some interesting moments. Seeing stuff from the first that wasn’t actually in the first film is cool. The rest of the footage is believed to be lost tho.
In the end, this is the worst film in the series so far. The only one I didn’t like. Mostly boring and everything new it brings to the table didn’t work for me.
