This is what I would consider the first great Scorsese film, Ellen Burstyn can act like god damn crazy and she certainly deserved best actress for this. I’m not entirely sure on my thoughts on some parts of the film, and, as I’ve found, Scorsese flicks are incredibly hard to rate for whatever reason. But there’s so much good here and such likable (and unlikable) characters that it deserves to be seen by WAY more.

Ellen Burstyn is so raw that it feels less like watching a movie and more like eavesdropping on someone’s life. It’s loud, messy, and deeply human—left me feeling surprisingly hopeful.

Also I sort of theorize that Marty finds women much more reasonable and understandable than men and THAT’S why he makes so many films about the latter.
