This was so visually pleasing!
I'm obsessed with the vibe they had going on. The entire score was so eerie and perfect and lowkey reminded me of Dario Argento.
I watched OBSESSION yesterday and i think it's kind of interesting how a movie from the 70s and one from 2026 had a thing in common: men choosing the easiest option. The one that is the closest to normal, the one that doesn't require to put too much effort, the one that doesn't create any sort of responsibility for them and, specifically, doesn't make them feel ashamed around other people because they're the first ones that can't accept the reality of things. (This is about Jessica's husband cheating on her with Emily, and Bear almost cheating on "Nikki" with sarah.)
The entire plot was so confusing and kinda nightmarish that it mkes you feel like you're in Jessica's head. You read the title and think that Jessica will be scared to deatg by whatever is going on in that small town, but in reality, jessica is scared to death to relapse, scared to death that her husband will think she's insane and institutionalize her again, scared to death that no one will believe her and everyone will always see her as the crazy woman who sees things. There's a lot of gaslighting going on in this movie, from the husband who keeps telling her SHE'S FINE! to the voices in her head who aren't actually hers but emily's.
My own interpretation of the ending is that the moment she went on that boat and started going away from that town and her husband, she accepted herself and that she saw what she saw, and yes! Maybe some of if wasn't real and just in her head, but still, there was something there and she escaped. Coming to terms with who she is and what she's been through will help her heal more than going to another town with an husband who wants to shield her from every possible thing that could trigger her and make her feel ashamed about still not being as "normal" as he wants her to be.
