Macdonald trying to do his own 28 Days Later works out fine, but he doesn’t seem to get what YA elements are necessary to make a story this dark relevant to teens. Absolutely NUTS that Saoirse’s father Paul Ronan shows up as a bandit in the woods and she immediately shoots him in the chest.
