I love Firefly I love it so much I love the characters blah blah blah
It’s so good I’ve watched so many episodes of it like 4 times in the last 4 weeks
My film watching has dried up I just haven’t made the time as well as I usually do
But that horrific void it’s leaving has been filled by Firefly
And thank god for that
I just hit a very Firefly time in my life I watched it all first 6 years ago and have beautiful memories of it
It was amazing it was like it was for everyone else who watch it and loved it
And I’ve grown up since then and yk my tastes have changed a bit here and there
And I’ve gone back and I’ve watched it all again
Some a lot more again more
And I loved every second
It’s incredible it’s actual escapism and it’s an investment in people that aren’t real unlike anything else I’ve seen
It’s lighthearted and fun but not without its intensities and tough moments
It can get tense but it’s always clever and witty
However millennial it feels
And it gets very cringeworthy with some of those one liners
It’s glorious and it’s so impressive
I don’t need everything to serve purpose like a Breaking Bad or something that’s brilliant that stuffs great in a different way
I’ve never spent time like this with a project and know everything there is to know
I know Serenity like the back of my mind and if you’ve seen the show you do too
You know how everyone speaks to everyone you know how comfortable anyone is around anyone
You know them all and getting to spend time with them is the greatest part
So tragically ironic as it is, it’s incredible a show like this got cancelled so early
And everyone know it’s
Everyone know how fucked it is that we live in the timeline Firefly got cancelled
It’s even 6 years and it just stayed with me and I got to go back and have the best time all over again
It got cancelled dude I can’t believe it
But miracle as it is
We can spend more time with these characters
Just for a little bit two hours is all we’re getting
But it’s something
And it’s pretty unique
I don’t know anything like this no film or franchise
It’s so singular it’s hard to really like take in
It’s quite overwhelming
But it definitely isn’t bad
It’s just doing something different sometimes
First off
We don’t get all the characters
Maybe like 5 of them
The rest are written into one box and they stay there
It’s a film
We’re going from the most fun and whacky and fantastical and yet intricate relationships I’ve seen from anything to just a short film
We’ve spend so much time with the most compelling character dynamics
And now it’s two hours
It’s not possible
So okay
I’m forgiving I’m just gna swallow it whole and get on
I’m good I’m cool I’m coooool
So some characters have been reduced to one simple desire or plot device okayyy I get it
We’re also retconning some character development
Had to be done
Got to appeal to the new audience yk
Need people who haven’t seen the show to get on board so we need some character arcs of some kind for each person
Epic valid okay let’s do this
Oooo yeah and that audience need action tooo
Oh boy yeah
They need action and everything really dark
Make everything really dark
I don’t want faces I want expression indicators
Just an outline
Okay yeah nice it’s stylish-ish
It’s neeeat okay yeheysss
It’s alright.
Now we just sit back and relax
First hour and a half yess yess people this is how I could see Firefly on the BIG screen

It’s lovely
I’m having fun
But it’s a film so I’m just leant forward a teeny bit
I love these characters I’m just happy to hear them talk with one another oh it’s so satisfying !
But after all, this is a dark film it’s very dimly lit so let me furrow my brow just this one just a little

I like the film grain here
Ooo I love the textures everything has texture amazing very film
Everything’s so filmed up nice
Nice one liners
Appealing to the new audience goodly
Wow what a great one take
That was genius a little bit
Some how summed up 14 episodes of attention to detail with 5 minutes of even more attention to even more detailed details
That’s a great thing to have happened for me I and us who love this thing

Overall I love the show so much it’s hard to not feel so betrayed at the treatment of some characters here
However unavoidable it was
It’s tragic
It had to happen but it’s missing a lot of what made it beautiful
That said that’s mainly the end
It’s close to a great way to end it
But I doubt it’s anywhere close to THE great way
The best way to send it off in two hours
The first hour is great it’s fabulous I’d happily watch that again
Then it derails a bit
Always at its best on Serenity as always
Allllllways
But the space swashbuckling in the first half is fab
I’ve spoken about the final moments below
Or like ranted idk doesn’t matter
It tried very well and I’m just happy for the bits that work
Very happy very grateful
There would’ve been a better way but this doesn’t suck at all
It’s quite good
Extremely impressive one shot and a lot of funny moments on par with the show
The cringeyish to early 2000s fun and charm ratio is the same very proportional to the show which is nice
Bad decisions made only at the end
And they’re mainly film making decisions I think
That damage the emotional investment a lot
The one big one is just the narrative route with some big bad guy and whatever I think personally
But it’s cool it happens shit happens
Feels like an alternate reality ending sort of
I don’t fully buy into it’s existence but I’m grateful for the bits that work
Too action heavy even if it’s doing it alright
No one needed that except universal studios or whatever
Okay I think I’m done
It’s bittersweet
I can’t wait to watch the show more and again and again
I will come back to this less
I love it in some way but it’s not off the hook
It did need to be better and it wasn’t that’s the sad truth
But it’s clear even through the troublesome elements bright as day the lightning in a jar of these characters and story and world
It’s amazing

This guy made the Avengers bro ffs nostalgia aside for those films this wasn’t in the safest hands when you take such precious innards out into some body and form they aren’t meant for
It’s a miracle lowk that this is as good as it is and not a complete fuck up
But that’s just it
