I wanted to see this movie again because its my favorite movie of all time and yes… it still is.
Let me start off with the soundtrack. Everything and every musical note in this film is pure greatness. The main title by Basil Poledouris is litterally, i kid you not, one of the most beatiful If not THE most beatiful thing my ears have ever listended to, and I even often just play this theme in my AirPods on my way to school. The way that this whole soundtrack shows just how well and brilliant the chemistry between Jesse and Willy in this movie is just absolutely astonishing.
Now there is a scene were Jesse have just kinda got interest for Willy and has found out that they can kinda talk and understand eachother, and then Jesse has just given him some fish and he kinda nervoulsy sticks his hand out to Willy and finally gets the courage to try to touch him and the music starts going wild and then as soon as Jesse sucessfully touches him on the nose the music goes down and starts playing soft music again, witch is just so touching in a way that doesnt quite sound like it but trust me it is and once you have seen the movie you will know.
The way that the movie in the start shows that Jesse and his friends are these thieves kind of, and they steal food and takes strangers money, and then once Jesse first sees Willy you can kinda tell just by first interaction that he kinda leaves all of his friends behind and starts to fall in love with this big dangerous killer whale is just so wholesome.
Now this movie was not that big part of my childhood even tho there would sometimes be this movie on the tv and I kinda watched along and tbh I did not really like it and it was first years later were i saw the tv series gravity falls and there was an episode were one of the characters made an orca sound or something like that and then i remembered that there was this movie and i started watching it just for fun and i thougt that It would just be a quick bad and pourly made movie… but no.
Since that day the love for this movie was unbelivable. This was not just a fun little movie. This was the movie that changed my life and made me fall in love with movies. I always kinda hated on movies when I was little and thougt that they were boring. But now im looking at my dvd collection of over 300 dvd’s including the great Free Willy. And now I watch almost 2-3 movies a day and has fallen in love with movies and physical media just because of one episode of gravity falls. Thank god that I watched that episode cause it has changed my life.
Not only just physical media and movies but this movie also made me fall in love with killer whales/orcas. And also just whales in general. Now my favorite animal of all time is of course the orca and I dont know why but I always get so emotional everytime I see something that has to do with orcas. Whether its a video or just reading or seeing pictures of them.
Just seeing the 2 connect and being so great friends even tho they are 2 different creatures is just the best.
