I can see the gayness in this adaption.
Iago and Emilia are the perfect cast.
I love how Iago turns to the screen and you can see how fake his charisma is. The physical aggressiveness to his wife also reflects just how evil he actually is.
While I'm upset some scenes weren't included, I did like some of the changes.
While their relationship is romantic at first, it's overtly sexual unlike the play which I think reinforces Othello's objectification of Desdemona, especially since all their attempts to consummate their marriage are interrupted. It's easier for Iago to manipulate Desdemona's image when Othello has seen Desdemona in that light, yet their marriage is not official allowing Iago to build on Othello's insecurities and anxiety around cuckoldry.
I love how the willow song was potrayed, it felt more intimate.
Othello crying when he murders Desdemona really shows how conflicted he is and when he turns his back to Emilia it really emphasises his guilt.
I love how Iago dies at the end aswell, bleeding out on top of the mess he's caused. His reaction to Othello's death was interesting, it's like he almost showed empathy through his confusion of why Othello would kill himself over guilt since Iago feels no remorse and actually rejoices in his revenge plans.
Anyways I feel like this is a pretty good depiction, definitely better than some of the Theatre adaptions we're forced to watch in class.
