My favoirite Truffaut. Watched it again for a class and couldn't help but take joy in all its tender episodes of childhood exploration.
This time, while focused on Truffaut's works as a whole, I noticed a stark contrast in Julien's carnival scene when compared with Antoine Doinel's in 400 Blows. It struck me how much more sober it felt through the eyes of this character, a partial reflection of Doinel, for sure, but perhaps a much darker, more intensely unloved version of him.
