The river is the scene of an unresolved crimescene. "Passing woman" A group of friends enjoyed a day at the riverside. While driving home, a mysterious woman passes by the car... and boards it. "Grave keeper" A grave keeper tends to a gravesite at 2am in the morning, when he records something strange... "A game of Gomoku" This video was shot with a Hi-8 camera, during a family holiday. During the game however, a deformed figure appears... "Vengeance" Recorded by an illegal orginazation. Woman who is intimidated by men and forced to consume a drug, performs a blade-ritual while wearing a white gown. The ultimate shock video!

just some classic J-Horror psychic phenomena/found-footage horror shorts. extremely entertaining, at times pretty creepy, sometimes dipping in quality but always oozing with atmosphere that keeps me coming back to this type of film! one of my favourite genres in Japanese film! highly recommended to fans of this type of film, luckily there are an absolute tone of this (some of which i own on dvd) so this series will be a good one to come back too for that J-horror crave.

The only thing I have to compare this to from memory is Celluloid Nightmares (1999). And I know that film is way more extreme. But in terms of tackling the whole found footage genre and having the stories be told after the fact, this does a terrible job. There are a lot of weak uses for shock factors.

It’s just poor excuses to include minimal visuals to frighten the viewer. But honestly there was nothing to be scared of or interested in as all of these stories and videos put together a poorly told “spooky” encounter. It feels like everything is just irrelevant to know about.

Another important factor this fails at is being believable. Due to the decision to make things visually terrifying they just show shakiness and use obvious SFX. The stories themselves aren’t interesting or seem like they were scarring.

I do kinda like the final piece of footage as it was more graphic than the rest. But if it takes something graphic to finally grapple my interest then they should’ve just stuck with it in the beginning. I think the horror of gore and supernatural would be an interesting blend to see for this type of film.
