So, I was missing out.> Who is more embarrassing: a conservative Star Wars fan, or a conservative Trekkie? This is my first Star Trek anything, and if a Trekkie were to judge me for not watching nayhting beforehand, jsut know that my friend picked this one for me to watch, and she's a fan, so I trust her; I also want to know what my friends are talking about so I don't stay idle.
This was a pretty great introduction. I would have rated this higher if I had prior knowledge of these characters, as opposed to piecing together the events of 2 and 3. While the first act was me mostly inferring knowledge, once the main story kicked off, I was thoroughly engaged. I was afraid this would be like 'Woman Woman 1984', where the fish-out-of-water stuff got irritating, but it led to some great comedic bits. The stakes were felt, and they utilized the settings to create fun set pieces for drama.
Honestly, I don't know why I didn't try to watch anything Trek before this. Perhaps, of how burnt out I was from Star Wars back when 'Rise of Skywalker' came out (I haven't seen a Star Wars movie since), but I'm definitely going to go through this series. I'll most likely check out the episodes my friends recommended me, and then the movies with the original cast.
This was a treat, and I will say it's closer to a 4 than a 3.
