This shit was so much better than the first one. I mean it was still bullshit but I enjoyed it more. I’d become an SFX guy just to have a PI friend who I can do fun crime fighting shit with any day. I think this movie cooked more because it took its self less seriously. It wasn’t as “dramatic” and was more “wtf this shit is crazy”. The fucking clown suit. The opening. It’s so much fun. I loved it

The actual special effects stuff is great and could be the workings of a 3.5 star movie. Unfortunately the whole back half is ridiculously convoluted and honestly makes no sense. By the end, I was still kind of unsure why any of it had happened, and I even listened to a podcast that EXPLAINED what happened. 

In any case, the lead character WORKS and SHOULD be in Columbia adjacent series of tv movies that come out every few years. They don’t need to be good, but they do need to be a showcase for insane practical effects.

I liked this one better than the first one. It had more character stuff and more Brian Dennehy which is always good. I think these movies are definitely ripe for a remake and could even be made better. I do enjoy the chemistry between Bryan Brown and Dennehy though so that is something that will be missed should they ever remake these. As far as FX2 goes, a good flick, pretty similar to part one but done a bit better.
