this is such a depressingly beautiful movie. it's in no way an easy watch due to its traumatic themes, but it's so well-made that i urge you to watch it if you can. i felt every emotion deeply while watching this film, and i think that's thanks to a combination of good writing & incredible acting talent (the child actress who played leslie is the star for me, but both gillian jacobs and tom arnold were fantastic in their roles). making a film about child abduction & sexual abuse can sometimes come off as exploitative, but i thought the overarching theme of found family saved this film from being needlessly disturbing. there is something so comforting about leslie & donnie finding unconditional support through each other in a time of hopelessness & isolation.
