Saw imax 70mm front row so it was hard to take all in but I enjoyed it. There were some moments I thought were his best, but others might not have done enough for me so I’m a little torn. I’m not sure how much I like it, I need a rewatch.

Nolan was right we should just shut the fuck up and watch the movie first …
100% of how much I was gonna like this movie fell on how well Matt Damon did , I did not believe in him for whatever reason . But he was certainly what we needed him to be , especially in the 2nd half . Still don’t think he’s a great actor …
However I did not feel a singular emotion at all— but I still loved it , and think it’s a great movie .
I adore how it’s structured . Polyphemus is done … ( we don’t have a word to describe how well , how tf did he do that ? ) but it’s my favorite part in the book . Same with Scylla , that was unexpected … I didn’t think it would look like that , a great sequence nonetheless . I’m not a body horror fan at all , and I’ve seen masterpieces of that genre . This is probably the only body horror usage I’ve liked ever ( besides The Fly ) , it’s fucking awesome . Circe is literally stuffing her arm in their mouths and contorting their jaws , how did they blend that mixed with the human parts so well ? I was so beyond fascinated with what I was watching in that sequence . She was deadass pulling a Floop from Spykids 1 , turning them motherfuckers into Fooglies 😹😹😹 I can’t make this shit up . We definitely need a Nolan horror .
Samantha Morton as Circe was transformative as always . Rob Pat aura farming and nailing mannerisms … even in his final onscreen moment he’s him , wish he had more screen time . Anne Hathaway was incredible , probably the performance I was most in awe about surprisingly , then Morton and Pattinson next . That actually might be the only instance of emotion I felt was watching Anne act , which is funny because I’m an Anne Hathaway casual . John Leguizamo , and Himesh Patel were great , and so was Corey Hawkins— I’m surprised no one has mentioned him . I felt like he genuinely was living in those times ( accounting for the disconnected dialogue ) . Charlize was not good here imo , I think it’d be interesting if they swapped her and Zendaya’s characters . Love the score ( the criticism towards it is valid though ) , the loud buzz at the very beginning at dinner I felt in my chest . ( I wasn’t even watching in IMAX ) Its obviously a visual marvel , the typical Christopher Nolan grey and blue color palette gets a pass here ; he was trying , it looks great … but what else could the guy do to really spice it up ? The opening and ending really made it for me , it lost me a little in the middle parts .
The Charybdis scene wasn’t the best … I did not think that Hell was cool what so ever ( shoot me in the head if you must , but I deadass prefer the Percy Jackson movie’s hell more lmfaoooo ) . Elliot Page was a standout there though , and so was the other crawling dead guy talking ( that was Hades ? ) . Was there a makeup team ? Throw some damn dirt on some people fuck lol . I was not a fan of the dialogue at all , but that’s tricky to do with this adaptation . Sometimes they said some cornball shit , but that’s how these default protagonist hero’s journey movies are … possibly why I didn’t feel shit . Same reason I don’t feel a drop of anything when I watch ESB or ANH . Actually that’s a lie … I felt a little something when the giants slaughtered two ships , that I will say .

People need to realize The Odyssey could be told without any dialogue at all … so how do you navigate catering to the biggest normie fanbase ? … and remaining true to an ancient epic poem dialogue-wise ? Who knows the answer to that … it’s one of the most impossible things to adapt . Glad everyone loves it . Who knows if we will see a better adaptation in the next 50+ years … *
