This was a lot better than I remember it!
Don’t get me wrong, I liked it when I originally saw it. But I was 14 and this was your average/typical action movie where Liam Neeson played the same grizzled ex-cop character in every other movie he was in at the time. So I remembered it as being a pretty average movie that I just so happened to like at the time.
But it actually surprised me upon this rewatch. There was a lot going for it. The whole cast puts in great performances. It’s still weird to hear Dan Stevens with an American accent though. And I’m always shocked when I rewatch things and David Harbour pops up. I must’ve seen him in so much before Stranger Things and just never clocked that I already knew him from stuff!
I love the dynamic between Matt and TJ. It’s a standout of this film for me. The action is great, the soundtrack is tense and fuels the narrative. The runtime was just right. Overall, I’m glad I rewatched this and it was better than I remembered!
I bought the book after I watched this back in 2014 and I can’t remember if I actually read it or not, might have to revisit it now.
