My biggest problem with this film is not necessarily the movie itself, but the concept of ‘The Jetsons’. It just feels as if the series is mimicking way better properties from the same studio. It’s evidently just a futuristic version of ‘The Flintstones’ and even their pet dog is an obvious rip off of ‘Scooby-Doo’. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but when it’s done so aggressively it can become quite distraction. The overuse of CGI is also really jarring and doesn’t fit the traditional 2D animation that the series is known for. When it is just 2D it looks great, but again the CGI is massively distracting. The story is fine and it doesn’t break any new ground but despite my problems with them, I have always really liked the characters. They’re all evidently very stereotypical but there’s nothing egregiously wrong with any of them. My favourite has to be Mr. Spacely though and it’s even better that he’s voiced by Mel Blanc. Nothing massively awful but not enough for me to come away from this feeling wholly satisfied!!!
