watched with
@vic on lunar new year with some BANGIN chinese food — full immersion
a few notes on this, and remembering shaolin soccer, perhaps notes on chinese cinema:
- huge focus on cgi even if it’s bad — they did not have to put this many cgi shots in here and yet they put so much effort into each one. i loved their commitment to the demons
- plot goofy as hell, so many sharp left turns and non-sequitor scenes. truly a fever dream, i could not explain the plot until like 45 mins in, when the story starts to take hold
- legitimately funny af, so much physical humor, insane lines of dialogue, and cartoonish sound effects. vic and i were laughing constantly. homegirl being down bad vs homeboy only wanting to read his bedtime stories to demons is an incredibly well executed recurring bit 👏👏👏
… this is not my type of movie — ultimately i favor script and a cohesive story over pretty much everything else, but boy would someone who likes slapstick love this
need to sit down and finish this sometime, but i had so much fun watching the first 90 minutes that i couldnt NOT review it
