I love that line. Kitty chose money over happiness, which caused not just her, but all of them to be miserable, and in the end Kitty is dying and the money she was taught to chase after, offered no value.

This film was really good, I loved it! All the actor’s performances were beautiful, and omg Gary Cooper’s eyeliner is amazing

Fascinating to see a film from this era tackling divorce, more explicitly how it effects adults who had grown up with that circumstance. Still a melodramatic love triangle, but a really damn good one for a silent. These characters probably could've gotten an annulment all things considered... It looks great too, apparently von Sternberg did some touch ups on this and I don't doubt it.

Also GODDAMN young Gary Cooper is HOT.
