hooptober 12 #16this is dope as fuck when something is actually happening... the first act and the last act are so cool!! super fun visuals of art coming to life at the top of the flick, and some really cool practical effects near the end. but that middle section... like ohhh noo she's getting raped by a spider again wowww 😐 this is the seventh time... like at some point i get it. why does this have an inexplicable move to the countryside besides the fact that they had access to a castle to shoot in. why does the climatic scene take place in a sauna. why was the priest just sitting around at the lighthouse waiting for demons to show up. i have many questions. but latvia you are cool in my book

Hooptober 12, 20/31
A film about women's sexuality made by a man, but its actually good this time. It's still far from perfect, the story and themes are a little underdeveloped as the filmmaker is clearly much more interested in focusing on the images only. But god damn its worth it cause the visuals are so damn good. Erotic one moment, putrid the next, sometimes both, but always excellent.

Hooptober XII #5
A somewhat interesting film about sexuality and awakening. The practical effects of the Spider monster were incredible, although the spider sex was a... choice. Incredibly similar to Possession in that regard, although slightly more John Carpenter.
I wanted to like this film more, however I found very little meaningful story beats and character development to really capture my interest and make me care. Outside of the nightmarish scenes I honestly felt bored and uninterested. I also didn't find it had too much to say about its themes of represses sexuality either, although perhaps that's just me intuitively comparing it to other films of this nature.
Creepy? Yes. Interesting? Eh.
