This feels so within the wheelhouse of a Spike Lee movie, but it also feels totally separate from his other work all together too
I like both stories going on, but for the movie to be called Jungle Fever and then give us, sometimes a more interesting story with Samuel L. Jackson being a crack addict begging for money I could’ve watched a movie of just that and explore it the crack epidemic through a black directors lens
Both stories just kinda clash with each other sometimes, but there’s a lot of dense material, maybe too much, to dig into and make meaning of
If it wasn’t obvious before, I’m glad Cannes added an award for best supporting actor just because of Samuel L. Jackson’s performance
