I certainly liked this, but I definitely understand how it's sentimental Oscar-bait to a lot of viewers, because it doesn't quite land the themes it wants to explore satisfactorily enough. With that being said, I do enjoy and feel comforted by this era of sentimental Hollywood fluff, so I can't be too harsh on it. Also it's set in Maine even though it's barely shot there, and I have a tremendous soft spot for that area. As a matter of fact, I freaked out when I clocked that the beach used in a few scenes is Sand Beach in Acadia National Park, where I've spent my past few summers. That just made me happy.
Also Michael Caine with an American accent just sounds wrong.
