He's in a struggling mindset, using some harmful coping mechanisms to sort his own grief. The stress of a job, losing his mother, kinda just piles down on you when you don't have anyone to help you out. He doesn't really have a good influence in his life with people, pressuring him to make harmful decisions that affect his body. I guess when you're like that mentally, you have a hard time seeing that. Something I learned is that anyone who actively influences harmful choices on you isn't really a good friend!!!!!

The difference between wanting to have fun and getting addicted to the numbness it offers. Fucking asshole telling people his wife died of leukemia, knowing his mother died of cancer. The fuck??? Grieving the loss of his mother's life, and his wife leaving him. Noticing that a lot of people don't really like that Michael J fox was selected for this role in the movie, it's hard to say. I think it's difficult to tell when he's in different states of mind when he does coke.
